Why the calendar is unusual
Most festivals avoid the week between Christmas and New Year. The Venetian does the opposite and runs its Ante Up title event straight through it, finishing on the morning of 31 December so players are free that evening. The MSPT event then starts on New Year's Day, which makes this one of the few places to play a four-figure tournament in the first week of January.
