Isolation raise
Also: iso-raise, isolate, iso
A raise after one or more limpers designed to get heads-up against a weak player, in position, with the initiative. The aim is to isolate the limper rather than to build a pot with a monster.
Example. A loose player limps from early position; the cutoff raises to 5 bb with K-Q to isolate.
The iso-raise works because limpers tend to be passive and call too much, so you get to play a big-blind-sized edge against them post-flop. Size it around 4 big blinds plus one per limper, larger out of position. Iso-raising too wide invites squeezes from players behind.
